Every Ghost website has a built-in search, which is practical and fast. But it has some caveats:
- It doesn't include pages in search results. Only posts, tags and authors.
- It only searches within post titles and excerpts. Not the actual content.
- It doesn't include member-only posts in search results at all.
- It can search within up to the last 10,000 posts. If you surpass this number, you start missing old posts in search results.
- It doesn't give any insights about search keywords.
Some of those lacking features are critical for some publications.
That's why we partnered with Vellumine, an independent search service built specifically for Ghost sites, to bring you Complete Search.
What changes for your readers
Complete Search reads the whole content, not just the title and excerpt. So if someone's looking for a phrase you used halfway through a post from two years ago, they'll actually find it.
A few things it adds on top of that:
- Pages are searchable too. Your About, Contact and any documentation pages show up alongside your posts.
- Member-only content is findable, safely. Paid posts appear in search results for your members, without exposing the content to people who haven't paid for it.
- No post limit. Every post you've ever published stays searchable, however many you have.
- You get to see what people are searching for. Which keywords come up most, and just as importantly, which searches come back empty. Usually a pretty direct list of what to write next.
Turning it on takes a few clicks
No scripts to paste into your theme, no API keys to copy between dashboards. Enable Complete Search from your Synaps Media panel, and Vellumine indexes your site in the background. From that point on, your search just works differently. Nothing else on your site changes.
Pricing
Complete Search is available as an add-on on the Basic and Premium plans, for €5/month or €48/year per site (final price may vary slightly with your account currency and local taxes). Enable or cancel it whenever you like, it's billed together with your regular plan.

How does it work?
When you enable the add-on, we arrange a protected API key for Vellumine with read-only access. So Vellumine can only access the content but can't change anything on your site. While Vellumine indexes your content, we automatically inject its search UI to your website, which replaces built-in Sodo Search. Then, your readers can enjoy fast and accurate search and you can see what your readers are searching for!

Do I need a Vellumine account?
No. You don't need to do anything on Vellumine service to use this service with your Ghost publication running on Synaps Media.
Will we have X feature for search soon?
