Free migration Handled by our team

Bring your publication. We’ll carry it over.

Whether your site runs on Ghost elsewhere or on another platform, our team moves it to Synaps Media for you, free of charge. Your readers, paying members and archive arrive intact, and your current site keeps running until you decide to switch.

Where you’re coming from

Three ways in

How we move your site depends on where it lives today. The first two are free on every plan.

Free · on every plan

From a platform Ghost can import

We use Ghost’s official migration tools, so your content arrives the way Ghost expects it: posts, authors, tags and images, plus your subscribers where the platform lets you export them.

  • WordPress
  • Substack
  • beehiiv
  • Medium
  • Squarespace
  • Wix
  • Blogger
  • Buttondown
  • Mailchimp
  • Jekyll
  • Letterdrop
  • Curated
  • Chorus
  • Libsyn
  • Tiny News

Paying subscribers keep their subscriptions when the platform bills them through Stripe. Elsewhere, they’re invited to subscribe again on your new site.

Custom · plan agreed with you

Anything else

A custom-built CMS, a community board, a site builder without an export, or your own database. We’ve moved sites like these before, and we’ll look at yours too.

Custom migrations take more of our time, so depending on how complex your site is, they may need a yearly or longer plan. Contact support first and we’ll agree on the scope and the plan before any work starts.

What we take off your plate

The tedious parts are ours

A move is more than an import. These are the jobs our team does for you, so your part stays small.

  • Importing and checking your content

We compare the new site with the old one, not just run an importer and hope.

  • Moving your uploads

Images and files are copied to our storage and served from our CDN, so nothing points back to your old host.

  • Reconnecting your members and Stripe

Subscriptions continue on their own billing dates. Members don’t re-enter card details.

  • Keeping old links working

Where your URLs change, redirects send old links and search results to the right posts.

  • Getting your newsletter ready

Email sending is set up and included in your plan, so your first send works without a Mailgun account.

  • Your domain and SSL

When you’re ready, we walk you through the DNS change. Certificates are issued automatically.

How a move goes

Your old site stays live until switch day

Before the switch

We build your new site next to the old one

Start a trial, tell us in the panel’s Help chat where your site lives, and send the backup or export. We set up the copy on a preview address you can explore at your own pace.

Usually a few hours of work on our side. Sites with a lot of content can take up to a few working days; we’ll tell you before we start.

Switch day

You point your domain to us

A couple of DNS records, and your readers start arriving at the new site. The panel checks the records for you and issues the SSL certificate on its own. Members sign in once more on the new site.

After the switch

We keep an eye on things

We watch your first days and your first newsletter from the new site. Questions go to the same Help chat, answered by the people who did your move.

I really appreciated the customer support that Synaps provided when migrating my blog over from WordPress, even *before* I was a paying customer. So far, the hosting has been rock solid and speedy.

Running Ghost yourself?

Keep the publication, lose the server

Self-hosting Ghost means you are also its sysadmin. On Synaps Media, the parts that aren’t writing are our job.

  • Ghost updates tested and rolled out for you, so security fixes don’t wait for a free evening.
  • Automatic backups you can download from your panel.
  • Newsletter sending set up and included in your plan, no Mailgun account of your own.
  • Images on a CDN, resized and served from close to your readers.
  • Custom domains and SSL handled, with DNS managed in the same panel if you want.
  • Hosted in the EU, with support from the people who run the servers.

FAQ

Moving questions

How do I get a full backup from Ghost(Pro)?

Write to Ghost(Pro) support and ask for a full-site backup that includes the database and the content folder. Other managed Ghost hosts usually offer the same. If you run Ghost yourself, we’ll send you the two commands that make one.

What does a custom migration cost?

The work itself isn’t billed separately. Depending on how complex your site is, we may ask you to choose a yearly or longer plan for it. Contact support with a link to your site and we’ll tell you before anything starts.

Can I see the new site before my readers do?

Yes. We build it on a preview address first. You can browse it, sign in to Ghost Admin and ask for changes for as long as you need before switching your domain.

Do my paying members have to do anything?

No, as long as they pay through Stripe: you connect the same Stripe account and their subscriptions carry on. Like everyone else, they sign in once more on the new site.

Will my site look the same?

Coming from Ghost, yes: your theme moves with everything else. From other platforms you pick a Ghost theme, and we import your content into it. Designing a new theme isn’t part of a migration.

Does it matter how big my site is?

Most moves take a few hours. Large archives, lots of media or many members can stretch that to a few working days. Tell us roughly how big your site is when you get in touch, and we’ll give you a realistic time.

Is my data safe during the move?

Your backup is used only to build your new site, and nothing changes on your old site. Our servers are in the EU.

Your archive deserves a good home
