Social Web is ready to try for all Synaps Media sites
Ghost's new Social Web feature is getting more mature every day. And now it's ready to try for all Synaps Media customers
Last April, I shared that I was eagerly following Ghost’s new ActivityPub integration and couldn’t wait to add it to Synaps Media as soon as it became stable.
Social Web feature is still in beta, is getting better and mature every week. When Jannis from Magic Pages announced Social Web feature in his platform, I checked the latest state of the project, and found that it's working quite well. Also the fact that Social Web was the 2nd most requested feature in our internal survey last month, I decided to give it a go.
Since one week, with hard work and many hours of testing, I'm excited to announce that Social Web feature is now ready for you to try in Synaps Media. If you want to try it, you can just enable it on Synaps Media panel's new Configuration section in your site's detail screen.
What is Social Web?
Social Web is Ghost's next big thing. It allows your posts to be followed, liked, reposted or commented on other platforms like Mastodon, Bluesky, Threads or Wordpress. You can also send short-form notes just for the your followers on those platforms. This is possible with a protocol named ActivityPub and now Ghost has it's own ActivityPub server to integrate your Ghost website with the rest of the ActivitiyPub network, also known as "Fediverse".
What does "beta" means?
Social Web is not currently ready. It's still under active development by Ghost team and it's possible to have big changes before announcing it as "ready". While in my tests I noticed that it's working very reliable, you should still be aware of this state. And if you see any quirks in that feature, please use "Send Feedback" button on the right bottom of the screen to report it Ghost team.
But isn't that Configuration section also... new?
You have sharp eyes! Yes, that's also part of our updates today.
I believe a good managed service should spare you the hassle of tweaking settings by handling them for you, using smart defaults. This is exactly what we offer at Synaps Media. However, there are always specific cases where you might need to adjust certain configurations.
As a first step toward this flexibility, we’ve added several new Ghost configuration options under the new Configuration section in the panel. More settings will be introduced here soon.
