The first two are free on every plan. Free · on every plan ### Already on Ghost Ghost(Pro), another managed Ghost host, or your own server. Ask your host for a full-site backup: the MySQL database plus the `content` folder. Ghost(Pro) support and most managed hosts provide one on request. From that backup we build an almost exact copy of your site: - Posts, pages, tags, authors and staff accounts - Members with their labels, newsletters and comments - Paid subscriptions, still billed through your own Stripe account - Every image, video and file you uploaded - Your theme, settings, redirects and routes Data kept outside your Ghost site doesn’t travel with the backup: social web (ActivityPub) followers and Ghost’s built-in web analytics history. No full backup available? Ghost Admin’s own content and member exports work too; we’ll fill in the rest from your live site. We’ve moved sites like these before, and we’ll look at yours too. Custom migrations take more of our time, so depending on how complex your site is, they may need a yearly or longer plan. Contact support first and we’ll agree on the scope and the plan before any work starts. ## The tedious parts are ours A move is more than an import. These are the jobs our team does for you, so your part stays small. ### Importing and checking your content We compare the new site with the old one, not just run an importer and hope. ### Moving your uploads Images and files are copied to our storage and served from our CDN, so nothing points back to your old host. ### Reconnecting your members and Stripe Subscriptions continue on their own billing dates. Members don’t re-enter card details. ### Keeping old links working Where your URLs change, redirects send old links and search results to the right posts. ### Getting your newsletter ready Email sending is set up and included in your plan, so your first send works without a Mailgun account. ### Your domain and SSL When you’re ready, we walk you through the DNS change. Certificates are issued automatically. ## Your old site stays live until switch day Before the switch ### We build your new site next to the old one Start a trial, tell us in the panel’s Help chat where your site lives, and send the backup or export. We set up the copy on a preview address you can explore at your own pace. Usually a few hours of work on our side. Sites with a lot of content can take up to a few working days; we’ll tell you before we start. Switch day ### You point your domain to us A couple of DNS records, and your readers start arriving at the new site. The panel checks the records for you and issues the SSL certificate on its own. Members sign in once more on the new site. After the switch ### We keep an eye on things We watch your first days and your first newsletter from the new site. Write to Ghost(Pro) support and ask for a full-site backup that includes the database and the content folder. Other managed Ghost hosts usually offer the same. If you run Ghost yourself, we’ll send you the two commands that make one. #### What does a custom migration cost? The work itself isn’t billed separately. Depending on how complex your site is, we may ask you to choose a yearly or longer plan for it. Contact support with a link to your site and we’ll tell you before anything starts. #### Can I see the new site before my readers do? Yes. We build it on a preview address first. You can browse it, sign in to Ghost Admin and ask for changes for as long as you need before switching your domain. #### Do my paying members have to do anything? No, as long as they pay through Stripe: you connect the same Stripe account and their subscriptions carry on. Like everyone else, they sign in once more on the new site. #### Will my site look the same? Coming from Ghost, yes: your theme moves with everything else. From other platforms you pick a Ghost theme, and we import your content into it. Designing a new theme isn’t part of a migration. #### Does it matter how big my site is? Most moves take a few hours. Large archives, lots of media or many members can stretch that to a few working days. Tell us roughly how big your site is when you get in touch, and we’ll give you a realistic time. #### Is my data safe during the move?
